One of the worst things you can hear in radio is "The station has been sold." The thought, "What's going to happen?" is smothered with fear when you work for a Christian station that's bought out by a non-Christian radio company. And if you happen to be in a management role, you might as well get your resume in order immediately.

This scenario happened to me recently. A company in Huntsville, AL that does not own any other Christian radio stations purchased Reality 101.1FM in Birmingham. In less than a month, I was out the door. They wanted their own corporate Program Director to oversee the station. What really bothered me is that they didn't even talk to me or look at my track record or research my background. Just, BOOM, you're out. I must admit, it was quite a blow to my fragile, radio ego.

About 4 days after they lowered the boom on me, they cut 6 others. So, they were serious about wiping the slate clean and starting from rock bottom.

Now, you might be thinking, I was really hacked. And you would be partly right. But, honestly, I was more upset about them letting some of the others go, than their decision to "not retain" me. These are God-fearing, wonderful people who have worked very hard over the past year or two to try to keep a full-time CCM station in Birmingham. Why did they have to go? This is God's radio station, after all, why is this happening?

Well, as you know, our ways are not always His ways. Our finite little minds can't possibly see what's on the horizon. So our course of action should be, "Here I am, God, send me". If this door is closing, help me find the path that You are clearing for me.

I know, easier said than done. However, remember, we are children of God. We are called to a higher standard. We can't act like those who would try to find a way to get revenge. We can't sabotage or damage equipment. We can't go on the air for our last shift and dishonor God by saying things that may turn a seeker away. We are Christians. We must act like Christians. And we must love like Christ.

You're a smart cookie, you can see where I'm going. Yes, you must show the love of Christ to that new owner. No matter how badly he or she treated you. Perhaps you were brought into his or her life for only a brief moment to expose that new owner to a real, living, breathing Christian. We tend to react to these things in such a selfish way. GGGOOOODDDDD!!! Why did you let this happen to me!?!?! What are you trying to teach me?!?!? Consider this. Perhaps God is using you to show the new owner, his staff or others just how a real Christian works out their faith. He could be calling you to plant a seed that may not come to harvest for years to come.

So, the next time a bomb drops at your station. Keep your head up, remember the faith you claim to hold so dear, and fix your eyes on the Prize. God knows who's watching and He may just be trying to use you to affect someone for eternity.
